Karim Rashid

Karim Rashid, a designer and artist, believes in satisfying the innate human desire and need for beauty. The artist’s portfolio of design has been acclaimed by over 300 awards in the likes of the Red Dot Award, Chicago Athenaeum Good Design Award and IDSA Industrial Design Excellence Award.

 

He has worked in over 35 countries to date, seeking inspiration from his daily encounters and experiences from different places. His diverse background transfuses into his artistic sense by granting him the ability to mix different elements of ideas, materials, behaviours and aesthetics, in turn developing his distinct style through his innovations.

 

Some of his award-winning works include the designs of everyday items such as the Garbo waste can and Oh Chair for Umbra and of interiors such as, of the Morimoto restaurant in Philadelphia, and of the Semiramis Hotel in Athens.

Born in 1960, Rashid is featured in 20 permanent exhibitions worldwide. His works are featured at museums and galleries, and in private collections all around the world. Some of these exhibitions were held at the International LED Festival, Italy (2010), the Museum of Art and Design (2009), the Galerie Yves Gastou (2009), the Museum of Modern Art (2005), and the Munich Design Museum (2004). When the artist is not creating Art, he plays the role of a DJ and is actively involved in the Art and Fashion world. The artist currently lives and works in New York.
